3 politicos sent to jail in chit-fund scam

A special Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) court here on Monday evening rejected the bail applications of sitting BJD parliamentarian Rama Chandra Hansda and two former MLAs — Subarna Naik and Hitesh Bagarti — and sent them to judicial custody.

The three politicians will be housed in the Jharpada prison here. Hansda, a Lok Sabha member from the tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj constituency and Naik and Bagarti, two former legislators from the BJD and BJP respectively, were arrested by the CBI last week for their alleged links with tainted chit fund company Navadiganta finance based in the state.

The premier investigating agency had taken the trio on a six-day remand for further interrogation after they were produced in a special CBI court.

The CBI court on Monday also granted the remand of Prasanta Dash, the arrested chairman-cum-managing director of another controversial Odisha-based chit fund company, Sea Shore group. Dash will be in CBI custody for fourteen days for further interrogation.

He was also taken on remand recently by the Enforcement Directorate for questioning.
