Seven Modi rallies in Delhi

Looking to encash Prime Minister Narender Modi’s star power to the hilt, the Delhi BJP has proposed organising seven rallies by him in the city in the run-up to the mid-term Assembly elections expected early next year.

Mini-trucks with facility for projecting three-dimensional (3D) image of Modi will be used at spots away from the rally venues to recreate the magic of a live speech by the prime minister.

“Similar, 3D Prachar Raths used during the Lok Sabha elections were a rage among the voters,” said a Delhi BJP leader.

“We want one Modi rally in each of the seven parliamentary constituencies in Delhi. Each Lok Sabha constituency has around 10 Assembly seats under it,” said a BJP source.

“Hopefully, there would be no Assembly polls in any other state around the same time when Delhi voters pick their new legislators. The prime minister would be able to give full attention to the capital,” he said.

A BJP media team member said, “The party has decided to highlight the achievements of the central government and Modi’s governance model to woo Delhi voters.”

“In such a situation, there would be a great impact with Modi himself telling voters about the work done by his team and the expectations people can have from the next Delhi government headed by the party,” said a former legislator.

Apart from the seven rallies, Modi is also likely to interact with people through the social media.

“We are preparing a list of the achievements of the BJP-led central government which would have a direct impact on the city,” said a Delhi BJP leader.

Some of the issues that are going to be showcased, include the withdrawal of the Delhi University’s four-year undergraduate programme, provision of power subsidy in the budget, opening of water ATMs, cycling project in Dwarka and solar power plants set up in New Delhi area, he said.

Declaration of a holiday on Chhath Day will also be highlighted to woo Poorvanchali voters, he said.

A former Delhi BJP vice-president said since there is no election code in place till the poll dates are announced, there could be some more people-friendly announcements soon. The elections to the 70-member House could be announced by November-end.
