AP rejects Telangana power crisis resolution

Accuses KCR of misleading House; wants dialogue to solve issue

Dubbing the Telangana Assembly’s unanimous resolution blaming it for the power crises as unwarranted, the Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday said both states should solve the issue through dialogue.

The resolution had also urged the Centre to give the rightful share of power produced in AP and set up a mechanism to oversee implementation of the AP Reorganisation Act in true spirit.

“It is not fair to blame the AP government for their follies,” AP Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said, addressing the media.

“If there is a problem, both states should sit and solve it. If Telangana gives us our share in Jurala power, they could ask for power from Seeleru,” the minister added. Ramakrishnudu alleged that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had misled the House by quoting false statistics.

According to the Andhra Pradesh government, Telangana has so far utilised 15,108 million units from the combined total production of 27,948 million units from June 18, which amounts to around 53.89 per cent as per the AP Reorganisation Act.

KCR, on the other hand, countered this on the floor of the House on Monday saying the TDP government has been showing the 4,889 million unit Telangana had bought from other sources at a cost of Rs 2,572 crore as units discharged from AP’s total output.

“We are not beggars, but equal partners in the construction of Krishnapatnam and Hinduja thermal power projects. We are asking for our due share,” KCR said, offering to lead an all-party delegation to meet the prime minister on the issue.

Meanwhile, YSR Congress MLA Thati Venkateshwarlu said his party would support the TRS government in its struggle to get its due share of power from AP.  He insisted that the fight should be for fair implementation of the Act’s provisions rather than a fight against Chandrababu Naidu.
