Lecturers to protest government circular

Federation of University and College Teacher’s Associations in Karnataka, will soon hold demonstrations against a State government circular, which has increased their work load.

Professors of government and aided colleges have been affected due to pay arrears by University Grants Commission worth Rs 800 crores, delay in monthly salaries, delay in implementing pay committee recommendations and others, said C R Raju, General Secretary of the Federation.

The government, in its circular dated November 10, has increased the number of work hours from 22 hour per week to 40 hour per week. “This is a ploy by the government to cut down the number of available vacancies in government and aided degree colleges,” he said.
By increasing the workload of lecturers, the government aimed to reduce the number of vacancies from 2,200 to about 500, Raju said.
