Criminal cases filed against 5 sugar factories

The district administration has filed criminal cases against five sugar factories in Athani taluk, for failing to pay farmers’ dues.

Several factories have defaulted in paying Rs 2,500 per tonne of sugar cane, the price fixed by the government. 

The Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies filed the cases against the factories under the Karnataka Sugar (Regulation of Purchase and Supply) Act at the Judicial Magistrate First Class Court of Athani, Commissioner N Jayaram told Deccan Herald.

In Gokak, Chikodi

Cases will be filed against the sugar factories in Gokak and Chikodi on Thursday. In the following three days, cases will also be filed against all 22 sugar factories in the district to ensure that the farmers are paid their dues.
