Vishal Sikka calls for overhaul of IT engine

Infosys CEO and MD Vishal Sikka on Wednesday voiced his disappointment over the current state of affairs in the IT services sector and expressed the need for a better direction for the industry to take.

Delivering his keynote address via teleconferencing at the Bangalore ITE.Biz - CeBIT India, Sikka said, “The IT services industry should not look at doing the same old things and must instead look at doing new things in new ways.”

“I find that all of us in the industry are on a downward spiral. It’s like a treadmill of increasingly lower cost, hiring people faster and faster, from more and more mediocre places, training people less and less, putting them into the job faster and faster. I think that is the wrong direction,” he said.

Sikka, whose software products background in Germany-based SAP fetched him accolades as an industry doyen in innovation, said that the IT services industry should look at areas such as design thinking, artificial intelligence and automation to bring in more value for clients.
