Teenager goes missing from LNJP

An 18-year-old boy, who was reportedly “disoriented” after an accident, went missing from Lok Nayak Hospital a week ago. Family members of the teenager alleged police inaction over the incident.

Javed, a resident of Narela, was admitted to the neurosurgery ward in the hospital after an accident.

“He was admitted to the hospital on October 31. He suffered severe injuries after being hit by a car. His father had come down for a break. All of us, other relatives, were present on the hospital campus. When his father went back after some time, he noticed that the boy was missing,” said Mohammed Sharif.

The boy was referred to LNJP because of the severity of his head injuries.

“We filed a missing person report with police the next day. Even though it has been over eight days now, police have done little to trace him. The CCTV footage doesn’t show him leaving the campus,” said Sharif. However, according to the hospital administration, police are still investigating the CCTV footage.

“According to the CCTV footage obtained, the boy was last seen with his father inside the ward at 1.30 pm. Police are carrying on with the exercise of examining the CCTV footage,” said Dr Siddharth Ramji, Medical Superintendent, LNJP.

The hospital immediately registered a missing person complaint with police, he added. Since the boy was not bedridden, the hospital staff had little to doubt where he was going.

“However, according to medical reports, the boy was disoriented following the trauma of the accident. This was due to the head injuries he sustained. So he might have moved out of the hospital premises even without realising he was doing so,” said a source in the hospital.
