'I used to resist growing up'

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh might not have too many films to his credit. But having done impressive roles, he is always excited about new projects.

With his new film, ‘Kill Dil’ hitting the screens, he is excited.

He says that his role in the movie is the most childlike that he has ever done.

“My character is very sweet, endearing and innocent. The irony is that he kills people for a living, but that is because he has been raised to be one. He has no philosophy in life and just goes with the flow,” says Ranveer.

He adds that his character doesn’t think much but things change when a lady enters his life.

“Then he sees things differently and understands that there is more to life. But it is also not that simple to stop suddenly and that’s when the conflict kicks in. Though all this may make it sound like it is a serious film, it is not! It’s a light-hearted film. Thus the name ‘Kill Dil’,” he says.

This actor has come a long way from ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’.

“There’s a lot to absorb. I’ve been here for four years and have only done five films, but I’ve learnt a lot. I have matured. I used to resist growing up and finally it is happening now,” he says with a smile.

“I have my own philosophy and strong likes and dislikes,” he adds.

Ranveer says that he feels lucky that his work has been consistently accepted.

“I do feel the pressure of delivering successful projects but I don’t let it get to me. It’s what you work towards that makes people treat you like a seal of quality, be it a movie, an advertisement or a live performance. I’ve also been very lucky.”

The actor says that it is easy to act with today’s artistes.

“All of them are cool. ‘The younger brigade’ is very professional, understanding and chilled out! Today’s actors have no starry airs. There is no protocol or formalities between them,” says Ranveer.

His next project ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is with Deepika Padukone, for which he will be sporting a bald look.

He points to his c7ap and says, “I’ve been told not to reveal the look. I’m excited about the movie and the kinds of emotions I will get to explore in it. The role also demands commitment and I guess, I was one actor who was ready to go the distance.”

While Ranveer is appreciative of Deepika, ask him if off-screen chemistry helps on screen,  he says, “Not at all. On the screen, it’s a different story. You may be best of friends with someone, but you are given lines and you have to do justice to them.”
