Hampi Utsav to recognise folk artistes

The three best performing folk artiste groups at the Shobha Yatre will be awarded at the three-day Hampi Utsav set to be held from January 9 to 11, 2015.

Ballari district in-charge minister P T Parameshwara Nayaka made the announcement at a preparatory meeting of the Utsav Committee held at the deputy commissioner’s office on Friday.

The chosen three teams will receive awards in the name of M P Prakash and Daroji Eeramma, he informed.

The State committee will make the final decision on the cash prizes to accompany the awards, he said.

A seven-day ‘Sound and Light’ show depicting the glory of the Vijayanagara Empire will be organised as part of the Utsav.

The Karnataka Sculpture Academy will conduct a ten-day sculpture workshop in Hampi. A three-day painting workshop will also be conducted.

Decisions regarding thrilling adventure sports and kite flying competitions will be made, he said.

Artistes and performers of national and international fame will be invited. Opportunities have also been created to showcase local artistes, Deputy Commissioner Sameer Shukla said.
