Girl ends life after fight with sibling

A 16-year-old girl committed suicide at her home in Baiyappanahalli police station limits over a fight with her sibling on Thursday.

Jayashree, from 8th Cross, Byrasandra in Subramanya Layout, was the youngest daughter of Megha and Yellappa, both labourers. Their older daughter, Gayathri, 18, is a BCom student.

Police said Gayathri wore Jayashree’s clothes to college on Thursday morning. Jayashree picked a quarrel with her sister for borrowing her dress. Yellappa intervened and scolded Jayashree. He also promised to get her a new dress and left for work. but she told him she would not be there when he returned home. Not taking her seriously, he ignored her threats, the police added.

Her mother and sister too soon left for work and college respectively. Jayashree, who had failed in the SSLC examination, was left alone at home. She hanged herself with a dupatta in the kitchen. When Yellappa came home for lunch at 12.45 pm, no one opened the door. He broke open the door to find his daughter hanging from the ceiling.
