Last Updated 14 November 2014, 20:52 IST

The Mekhri Circle skywalk, being constructed by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), will finally be thrown open for public use within two months.

Members of the BBMP Standing Committee on Major Public Works, who inspected the skywalk on Friday, said the project was being implemented on a design, build, own, operate and transfer basis. The cost of the project is being borne by Rajdeep Buildcon Private Limited Company.

“The company will pay us Rs 20 lakh annually for displaying advertisements on the skywalk. They will maintain it for 20 years,” chairperson of the committee Geetha Vivekananda said, adding that the skywalk will also have a lift facility.

The committee later inspected the railway overbridge that is being constructed at Allalasandra. Members also complained that no contractors are coming forward to complete work at Ambedkar Bhavan, despite tenders being floated in the past.

Citizens at Yelahanka also alleged that Taj GVK Hotels and Resorts is building a bridge at the Air Force Road without obtaining permission. “The bridge is built over the storm water drain,” Geetha Vivekananda said.
