In yet another breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday apprehended a Myanmar national from Hyderabad for his connection with the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh’s (JuMB) terror network in eastern India.

The recent arrest has gone to show how far the JuMB’s tentacles have spread across the country.

Khaleed alias Khalid Mohammed, a 28-year-old explosives expert, was staying in Hyderabad for years with fake residence documents and had no valid paperwork for travel.

The NIA said in an official release that Khaleed was found to be in possession of incriminating training videos, literature relating to poisons, IED, bomb making and explosives. Investigators seized a large quantity of jihadi literature, including leaflets relating to the Islamic State.

The agency is also understood to have found a large cache of explosives, but officials are tight-lipped about details.

According to sources, Khaleed belonged to the Rohingiya Solidarity Organization of Myanmar and even had links with other Bangladesh-based terrorist groups.

He was involved in running terror camps in bordering areas of Bangladesh and Myanmar, the NIA said. “He has admitted to have undergone training conducted by the Tehreek-e-Azadi-Arakan in Myanmar with trainers from Tehreek e-Taliban in Pakistan,” sources said.

More arrests are likely in next few days as NIA investigators are travelling to different parts of the country with key JuMB operative Amjad Sheikh in tow, who was recently arrested from West Bengal.

The NIA has been investigating the terror network of JuMB, which came to notice after a blast at Burdwan in West Bengal on October 2.

The agency was led to a number of madarsas in Bengal and Assam, which had become training camps for jihadi elements, and stumbled upon a large cache of arms and explosives.
