A Manipuri student suffered head injuries after three men assaulted him on Wednesday evening when he confronted them for misbehaving with a girl at Byrathi Cross near Kothanur, not far from the place where a similar incident had occurred last month.

Samuel, 21, an undergraduate student at a City college, was walking near Byrathi Cross when he saw three young men misbehaving with a local girl around 7.30 pm. He walked up to the youths and asked them not to misbehave with the girl. But the men asked him to mind his own business.

The trio continued to follow the girl and passed lewd remarks at her. Unable to remain a mute spectator, Samuel got into a showdown with the youths and sternly told them to let go of the girl. The men got furious and attacked him, leaving him with head injuries. But as the incident drew onlookers, the trio fled the spot.

The onlookers took Samuel, who was bleeding by then, to a nearby hospital and called the police. He is stable now, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Vikas Kumar Vikas told Deccan Herald. The Kothanur police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the attackers, he added.

In a similar incident on October 14, Michael Lamjathang Haokip, 22, a Manipur student at BMS College of Engineering, and his two friends—Ngamkholen Haokip and Rocky Kipgen—were attacked and racially abused by a three-member gang at Byrathi Cross for “not knowing Kannada”.

On October 25, a couple from Nagaland and their friend were assaulted by four men near Hesaraghatta on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
