Manipuri PhD scholar found murdered

A 32-year-old man from Manipur was found dead with his throat slit at his rented house in south Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur on Wednesday. The body of Kashung Zingran Kengoo was found at around 10 pm, police said on Thursday.

Kashung, who hails from Manipur’s Ukhrul district, had done PhD in Sociology from Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai. Kashung’s elder brother Yaorie Kengoo told Deccan Herald that he came to the capital in search of a job six months ago.

“Kashung had shifted to the second-floor house in Kotla Mubarakpur’s F-Block last month,” Yaorie said.

The house was not ransacked due to which the police have ruled out an attack for resisting robbery. The police have recovered Kashung’s mobile phone, a laptop and some cash from the room.

A case of murder has been filed with Kotla Mubarakpur police station.

According to the police, the body was spotted by another tenant who works with the Brazilian embassy. The tenant was returning to his house at around 10 pm when he saw blood coming out from Kashung’s room. The main door of the house was also slightly open on which the tenant went inside and found Kashung lying in a pool of blood.

He informed the landlord, who made a call to the police control room.

When a police team reached at the spot, they declared Kashung dead on the spot.

His throat had been slit and his tongue was also found cut. A crime and forensic team inspected the spot after which the body was sent for post-mortem at AIIMS. The police have recovered a knife which they believe is the weapon used to kill Kashung.

According to Yaorie, he was informed about Kashung’s death around 12:30 am on Thursday. “Just five minutes after I received a phone call informing the death of my brother, two policemen came to my house and took me to the spot,” Yaorie said.

After completing his PhD in Mumbai, Kashung came to Delhi in 2012 and used to stay with Yaorie in south east Delhi’s Chirag Dilli. But, Kashung returned to his hometown after a short stay.
