JOIN USA youth was allegedly hanged at a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahar district, about 450 kilometres from here, over an alleged love affair.
Reports said Lala, a resident of Nagla Chona village, had an affair with an upper caste girl from the neighbouring Tota village.
Lala used to visit the girl’s village to meet her frequently. On Tuesday night, he was spotted by the girl’s family members when he came to meet her. They caught the youth and took him to their home.
The reports said the family members tied him to a tree and thrashed mercilessly. Later they allegedly hanged him from the same tree to make it look like a suicide.
“Lala was hanged by them. It was done to make the police believe that he had committed suicide,” said Lala’s uncle. Police officials said they were investigating the matter.
“It is too early to say if the youth was hanged. The matter is under investigation,” said an official.
Some people have been detained for questioning, the official said.
“Since the girl belonged to an upper caste, her family members did not approve of the affair,” the official said.
There was tension in Lala’s village as the residents were seething with anger over the killing.
Security personnel in strength have been deployed in the two villages to maintain law and order, the officials said.
