Techie leaps to his death

There was high drama at Singasandra in Electronics City on Thursday when a 27-year-old software engineer jumped to his death from the fourth floor of an under-construction building, even as a rescue team, the police and the public watched in horror.

According to the police, the deceased, Rajesh Choudhary, a native of Uttar Pradesh and a resident of Ramamurthy Nagar, was working at an IT company.

He had been to his relative’s house at Kudlu Gate and while returning home, he went to the under-construction building and climbed onto the fourth floor. When he was about to jump down, some people noticed him and asked him to get down. However, a disturbed Choudhary created a ruckus, drawing public attention.

Soon, a huge crowd gathered there and the police and the fire personnel also rushed to the spot. They tried to persuade him, but in vain.

Noticing someone climbing the stairs, Choudhary threatened to jump, the police said. “Though a few policemen managed to enter the building, the victim plunged to his death. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The victim’s relatives said he was mentally disturbed over some personal matter. “Whenever he was asked what worried him, he remained quiet,” a police officer said.“At his relative’s house, he had threatened to commit suicide by jumping in front of a moving train or a bus. He then ran away when the relatives tried to restrain him. A couple of hours later, they were told Choudhary had committed suicide.”

The police said that there were many labourers working at the site and no one noticed him climbing the terrace.The security guard also did not notice Choudhary entering the building. When questioned, the guard said there were many labourers working at the site and it was difficult to keep tabs on people. A case has been registered at the Electronics City police station.
