'2,375 toilets pending to be constructed in Udupi'

Taluk Panchayath Executive Officer Rajendra Bekal said that as many as 2,375 toilets are pending to be constructed, to achieve cent per cent success rate in reaching out the target of ensuring the toilets to all houses in the taluk.

Speaking at the taluk panchayth general body meeting, the EO said the target to ensure toilets to all houses in the district would be reached within short period. He said the House has received information that Udupi taluk panchayath is chosen for Nirmal Gram Puraskar, following which, measures should be taken at warfooting basis to construct toilets in all houses that are left pending. He said the impending toilet construction works would be taken up at Avarse, Vaddarse, Nalkuru and Perduru villages and all attempts would be made to complete the works within the specified time period.

Member Sathyananda Nayak said the new notification on land conversion and 9 and 11 rule issued by the new Deputy Commissioner has put the land holders in the district at problem. He said most of the landholders in the district own small area of land. The new notification is posing severe problem. He said the House should take unanimous resolution wherein the new DC should be convinced of the situation in the district.

He should be appealed for amendment in the notification and simplify the process, he added. President Sunita Naik assured to take up the issue and write the letter to new DC appealing for the simplification and amending the new rule initiated for land conversion.
Sathyannad Nayak also raised the issue of ban on Kambala. He said that the House should take a decision, wherein an appeal should be made to the State government to convince the Supreme Court over the ban.

EO Rajendra Bekal said that as the decision is taken by the Supreme Court, the House is not entitled to initiate discussion over Court verdict.

Meanwhile, all the members contributed Rs 500 from their honorarium amount for the forthcoming State-level sports tournament to be played in Udupi.
