Abductors slit 6-yr-old's throat

They wanted Rs 1.5 lakh from his father

A six-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from central Delhi’s Ranjit Nagar, was found dead with his throat slit in west Delhi’s Naraina on Friday.

The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 1.5 lakh from the boy’s father for his safe release, police said.

The incident comes only two days after Delhi Police solved a similar case of Utkarsh Verma, 13-year-old son of a jeweller in east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar.

The victim in the latest case has been identified as Ganesh, who lived with his parents and three sisters in Ranjit Nagar’s Pandav Nagar. Ganesh’s father Pramod is a street fruit hawker.

On Thursday, Ganesh was playing outside his house while Pramod was selling fruit in the nearby market. Around 9.15 pm, Pramod received a call from an unknown number.

“The caller asked Pramod about the location of his son. When Pramod said his son was playing outside their home, the caller informed that he had been kidnapped and demanded Rs 1.5 lakh for his safe release,” said Alok Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Central).

Pramod returned home and found Ganesh missing. Though the caller had threatened Pramod against informing police, he approached them.

While the investigation was on, police in central Delhi were informed by their west Delhi counterpart that they had found a kid’s body.

The body was found inside Satya Park in Naraina, and the physical description of the body matched with Ganesh.

“The family members of the kidnapped boy were taken to the spot where they identified the deceased as their son Ganesh,” Kumar added. His throat had been slit using a sharp-edged weapon.

A case of murder has been filed with Ranjit Nagar police station.
“We suspect involvement of somebody close to the boy’s family. The kidnappers seem to have killed the boy over fear of being identified and arrested,” Kumar said.

Last week, 13-year-old Utkarsh Verma was found dead in a drain in east Delhi’s Geeta Colony.

Police had arrested two of the kidnappers who demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore from the boy’s parents.
