NC files plaint against Rajnath Singh

The ruling National Conference (NC) on Saturday filed a complaint against BJP leader and Home Minister Rajnath Singh for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by using Srinagar International Airport premises to telephonically address the public during his recent visit to Kashmir.

Singh was scheduled to address a public rally in Akad area of Pahalgam constituency in south Kashmir on Friday. However, he could not make it to the venue due to bad weather conditions and later addressed people telephonically from the Srinagar International Airport.

NC spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu said the use of public infrastructure and the premises of a building that comes under the purview of the government for the purpose of electioneering is a violation of the code of conduct.

“We have written to the Election Commission and hope that cognizance is taken impartially and in a time-bound manner and due action is taken against the BJP and Rajnath Singh,” he said in a statement.

Mattu added that the NC will also file a complaint with the commission against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP for leveling “serious, baseless, unsubstantiated and wild” allegations against the party leadership during his speeches in Jammu & Kashmir.

“We have filed a complaint against Rajnath Singh today and will file another complaint against BJP and the prime minister tomorrow (Sunday),” he added.
