'My priority is motherhood'

'My priority is motherhood'

Actress Karisma Kapoor, who was recently in the City, says that although she likes to keep herself busy, her top priority will always be her children. “I take up work that is convenient to my children’s schedule. People appreciate and value that and adjust for me,” she says.

The mother-of-two has strayed away from the film industry and has taken to various projects, including a book on pregnancy and a radio programme on styling tips for women. She says, “These days, I like doing different things. It is important to do different things and that’s what I’m enjoying about this. My priority is motherhood, and I give it a 100 percent, at the same time I work at my own convenience and pace, and I pick and choose what I want.” She adds, “I wanted to become an RJ because I wanted to connect with women all over, and I wanted to write the book because motherhood was so important to me and I wanted to give mothers tips on how to dress.”

Talking about her children, she says, “My kids are really young and they enjoy being around me and I enjoy being around them, that’s a daily thing for us. Whether it is dropping them to the bus stop, eating together or watching movies, I do very normal mom things with them.”

Are her children enchanted by the film industry? “Absolutely not. They know about the film industry, but at the same time they aren’t that aware - they have a good balance. They know that acting in movies is a profession, and mamma and ‘masi’ go to work, just like everybody else.”

Known for her glamour and elegance, the actress says, “I never dress for effect - I dress for myself. Despite the fact that I don’t do movies regularly, people still like my fashion statement and the way I dress.”

How does she manage to keep so fit? “I endorse keeping yourself fit as a style statement. And everything you do in life should be in moderation; I never starve myself. Like, we came here and I had a South Indian ‘thali’. I think young women these days shouldn’t feel so pressured.” She adds, “I’m a foodie, as a Kapoor! I never deprive myself of food. I really enjoy eating South Indian food whenever I come here.”

Talking about her time in Bengaluru, she says, “It is always a pleasure to come back here. The weather is wonderful. I was here last month as well, although it was a short trip.”
