Veterinary centres in every gram panchayat soon: CM

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Monday that the government would set up veterinary centres in every gram panchayat across the State.

He said that while there are as many as 2,300 veterinary centres in the State at present, the government plans to set up 2,000 more centres in the future. He was speaking at the inauguration of the foundation stone laying ceremony of a government veterinary college building, costing Rs 136 crore.

There is a growing demand for veterinary centres in various parts of the State, he said, adding that the dairy farming industry generates an annual turnover of Rs 4,800 crore. Considering this, the government has taken such a step, he said.
Referring to the recognition for Shivamogga and Hassan veterinary colleges, he said that the two colleges had not obtained recognition from the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) since its inception in 2006 and 2007 respectively. Now, these colleges have obtained recognition from VCI due to the State government’s effort in this regard.

Students of these colleges need not worry about their future as their degree will be deemed valid and they will get jobs without fail. However, the veterinary graduates should not switch over to other fields. Apart from this, the government would impose restriction on migration to other states.

Earlier, the chief minister said the government has rejected the Kasturirangan panel report on Western Ghats as people of the State are against it. The government has written a letter to the Centre on its stand on the report .

When questioned on Thirthahalli case, he said that the CID team is likely to submit the investigation report within three days. The government would take the next step based on the report.

He also stated that he will expand the cabinet after the Belagavi session.

Special bill

Animal Husbandry Minsiter T B Jayachandra said that the government would present a special bill in the Belagavi Assembly session with the sole intention of encouraging dairy farming and agriculture-based activities.
It will be a first-of-its-kind bill in the country.
