A sporty streak

Amara Jyothi Public School in association with Pearson Schools celebrated ‘Annual Sports Meet’ recently.

The event was attended by former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad. In an attempt to educate students about the importance of sports, Venkatesh spoke about the benefits of incorporating sports in curriculum and the value it adds in an individual’s life.

“It gives me immense pleasure to see schools giving equal importance to sports and education these days. Sports play an important role in educating young minds as they bring with them the ability to develop a sound mind, body and soul with increased self-confidence. Sports also help students to develop a strong mental growth and stay focussed in their activities.”

The theme of the sports meet this year was ‘Colour Wars’, as colours play an important role in the emotional development of a child. The theme was well depicted with a feast of colours and nearly 2000 students from pre-primary to college seen in colourful costumes. There were displays of aerobics, yoga and karate in the event apart from hurdle races, running, and cultural performances. Games for parents were also part of the sports extravaganza.

Lalita Ganapathy, principal, Amara Jyothi Public School, said, “In an effort to make our students ready for the world, we want to pay equal importance to sports and academics. This will help them understand their skill set to pursue a sports career in future and also have a fit and sound body. Such events on regular basis help students to understand their true potential and worth.”
