Reshmehadlu hosakere awaits rejuvenation

Reshmehadlu hosakere has lost its sheen owing to the negligence of the authorities concerned. The weeds and algae have surrounded the lake and silt has been accumulated.

The water body is situated on the periphery of the forest, where tribals dwell in a large number. The lake was constructed for irrigating agriculture land and also to quench the thirst of wild animals. As the sun sets in, wild animals like deers, bison, elephants and swines visit in large number to quench their thirst.

The government had initiated measures to remove the silt from the lake four years ago at an estimated cost of Rs one crore. However, the work has remained incomplete. Owing to the incomplete work, the water flows outside the lake.

Weeds have grown on the banks of the lake and no measures have been made to clear the weeds. Acres of farm land adjacent to the lake has been left fallow following wild elephant menace.

The residents said that there is a need to rejuvenate the water body. If the water body is developed, then it will cater to the needs of the wild animals throughout the year.

Taluk Panchayat member J K Ramu said “if the lake is developed, then tribals can take up farming activities on the available land.
