NGO helps Nepali citizen to reunite with his family after three years

A 34-year-old mentally challenged man from Nepal, who was found wandering in Mangaluru and was rescued by a Kasargod based NGO, has been successful in reuniting him with his family.

Addressing mediapersons in Mangaluru on Tuesday, Snehalaya Psyco Social RehabilitationCentre, Pavoor, Manjeshwar, Kasargod district President Joseph Crasta said that Manoj Kaukha alias Manu was mentally ill and was loitering in the streets of Marnamikatte in Mangaluru.

A local citizen Ganesh informed Snehalaya Psyco Social Rehabilitation Centre about the person and with the help of police, Manoj was rescued by the NGO. He was given primary care at the centre and was later admitted to the psychiatric wing of Yenepoya Hospital.

Manoj responded to the treatment and recollected his past to a certain extent. With the help of Psychiatric PG nursing student Kalpana Regmi, a Nepali citizen and her husband advocate Resham Raj Sigdel who is a public prosecutor, the whereabouts of Manoj was traced and his family members were contacted.

Manoj’s father said that he has been missing for the last three and a half years, after his PU education.

“He fell mentally ill all of a sudden. He was confined to house for nine years after he started undergoing psychological treatment. One fine day, he went missing. We family members had lost hope after search for him went in vain,” he added.

“I am happy to see my son after three and half years.” With the help of Ganesh and Snehalaya Psyco Social Rehabilitation Centre, Manoj is reunited with his family members and is all set to to return to his country. Manoj Kadukha and his family members were present.
