TN teacher suffers ear injury after student's slap

A woman school teacher in Tamil Nadu suffered ear injury in the classroom after a “mischievous” 12th standard student slapped her hard.

A 36-year-old computer teacher at a government school in Maduravoil on the outskirts of the city, scolded her student, who deliberately switched off the power mains in the classroom.

Annoyed at the scolding, the student suddenly lunged at his teacher and slapped her on the face, police sources said. School authorities said the student had indulged in similar behaviour in the past as well.

However, he was allowed to pursue his studies after his parents gave a written apology to the principal. The incident, which occurred on Monday evening, was reported to  senior officials of the education department. The affected teacher also lodged a complaint with the police.

The teacher, who was slapped near her left ear, was admitted to a government hospital on Tuesday. Doctors advised the teacher to undergo a minor surgery to set right the ear drum.
