Railways to sell tickets in market

Last Updated 02 January 2010, 16:46 IST

Having launched a special fare for the poor and under-privileged youth, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday announced a pilot project which would shortly enable rail commuters to purchase tickets from the market besides designated railway counters and railway reservation booking centres.

“We’re working on a special project –– ‘Mushkil Asan’ (problems solved) –– which envisages the sale of tickets for long-distance trains from special kiosks in the market,” Banerjee declared at a function near the Dakshineswar temple.

The concept of the new facility, she pointed out, arose in the wake of complaints from passengers that tickets almost “vanish” shortly after counters open for booking tickets for many key long distance trains.
