A decision regarding the closing of Shiradi Ghat road, part of National Highway 48, for repair and upgrade work cannot be taken in haste, said Public Works Department Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa and Forest Minister Ramanath Rai.

They were speaking to media after attending a high level officers meeting, organised to inspect the preparations made for the proposed Rs 155-crore Shiradi Ghat road repair work, in the town on Thursday.

The road should be closed for traffic only after there is a stockpile of all materials and equipment required for the entire work, they said and added it was an important road as it connected Bengaluru with coastal region.

Further, the repair work has to be finished in minimum time, the ministers said.
“Another meeting of deputy commissioners of two districts (Hassan and Dakshina Kannada) along with SPs, KSRTC officers and RTO officers will held to access the preparedness of the work and only after this a decision on closing the road will be taken,” they added.
PWD Principal Secretary Kamble, NH Chief Engineer C Mruthyunjayaswamy, Hassan DC V Anbukumar, DK DC A B Ibrahim and others were present on the occasion.
