Gold, cash worth Rs 30 lakh stolen

A house in north Delhi’s Model Town was allegedly burgled while its residents were out of station to attend a wedding. Police said the victims have put the worth of the burgled cash and jewellery at Rs 30-35 lakh.

No suspect has been identified yet despite the matter being reported to police on Wednesday evening.

Police weren’t able to locate any CCTV camera in the surroundings of the burgled house.

The victims have suspected the involvement of people known to them. Police are questioning several such people.

The victim Vijay Goel, 33, runs his own transport business in north Delhi area and lives with his family in Model Town’s B-block.

He and his family left for Saharanpur on Monday to attend a wedding.

“The family returned home at 7 pm on Wednesday evening to find the lock of the house broken. They entered inside to find the house ransacked and the safes broken and emptied,” an officer told Deccan Herald.

When they checked the safes, they found them cleared of gold and silver jewellery worth about Rs 30 lakh, police said. Cash to the tune of about Rs 3 lakh too was found missing.

Goel immediately approached the local police station and registered a case after which fingerprint teams and forensic experts visited the house to collect evidence.
The house is located on the ground floor of a four-storey building. Residents of the building claimed they did not notice anyone breaking into the house and heard no sounds. Police said they are yet to get any clues.
