Two held for robbing Rs 27 lakh, their victim committed suicide

Two men have been arrested for robbing Rs 27 lakh from a cash collection agent in north Delhi’s Kashmere Gate last month. The victim had committed suicide two days after the robbery, police said on Thursday.

Police have recovered Rs 2 lakh of the robbed money from Nihal Hassan and Subhash Singh.

On October 10, Ramprakash had reported that he had collected Rs 27 lakh from Gokhale Market in Mori Gate for his office. He had kept the cash in a bag and was on way to his office on foot from Mori Gate. At about 6.30 pm, he was in Gupta Market when he was overpowered by four men.

“Ramprakash was thrashed in which he sustained injuries on his head,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma.

The men then took away the bag. A case was registered with Kashmere Gate police station. Police analysed CCTV footage, which led to the arrest of Nihal. During probe, it was revealed that the gang operated on particular tips supplied to them by their informer Ravi.

“Ravi runs a battery shop in Gokhale Market and used to target businessmen,” Verma added.

Ravi used to inform the gang about victims carrying cash and their description. As soon as the victim used to leave for destination, the robbers would chase him and attack at public places.

Police have arrested Nihal’s accomplice Subhash and are conducting raids to nab other gang members.
