Constable held for molesting woman

A Railway Protection Force constable has been arrested for allegedly molesting a woman in the women’s compartment of the Mussoorie Express on Friday morning, the police said.

The accused, 57-year-old Rajpal Singh, is posted with Delhi Kishanganj railway station. He was held after a 21-year-old woman filed a complaint with the Old Delhi railway station police. The woman is from Uttarakhand and works with an NGO in the capital.

The incident allegedly took place shortly after the train left Gajraula railway station in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district at around 5 am. The woman boarded the train from Dehradun railway station in Uttarakhand at 9:20 pm on Thursday.

“The complainant claims she had an argument with the Railway Protection Force constable in the train during which he touched her inappropriately,” said a police officer. In her statement to the police, the woman claims she objected to Rajpal traveling in the women’s compartment. She stated that if he was there for routine patrolling, he should have left after a while.

The woman alleges that Rajpal continued to sit in the coach making other women passengers feel uncomfortable.

Later, the woman along with other passengers overpowered Rajpal. She called the police control room after the train reached Old Delhi railway station at around 8:30 am.

On the basis of the woman’s complaint, a case of molestation has been filed.“Rajpal was arrested at the police station and sent to Tihar Jail under judicial custody. He has not denied the allegations,” the officer added.

The police said after Rajpal’s medical examination that he was not inebriated.
