Three policemen suspended on charges of bribery

Three policemen attached to two different police stations in the city have been suspended on the bribe charges.

Head Constable Subbanna and Constable Prakash attached to Vidyaranyapuram station and Constable Mahesh attached to Ashokapuram have been kept under suspension with a pending enquiry, according to the order issued by Police Commissioner M A Saleem on Saturday.

Prakash had allegedly assaulted Subbanna on the early hours of December 4, when the latter intercepted a sand lorry.

The two had entered into a wordy duel over sharing the bribe amount from the sand lorry driver, that later took an ugly turn with Prakash manhandling his superior.

Mahesh had allegedly swindled Rs 1,500 from a two-wheeler rider near the checkpost at Srirampura on Manadavadi road recently.

The rider was caught in an inebriated condition by Mahesh at the time of routine inspection at the checkpost.

Mahesh has been suspended for the second time in the recent past, after he was caught under similar charges during his previous stint in another station. He had been transferred to Ashokapuram after the revocation of his suspension period.
