1,000 artists express their imaginations on single canvas

The Alvas Varna Jagruti is expected to secure a place in the Limca Book of Records

Alva’s Varna Jagruti is a preliminary event of the Alva’s Virasat, which is a national cultural festival being organised by the Alva’s Education Foundation. The Varna Jagruti camp was inaugurated by Karnataka Lalita Kala Academy President Nadoja Khanderao at the K K Hebbar Auditorium.

While more than 1,000 artists from various parts of the nation added colour to their imagination through a single canvas, large number of visitors, who thronged to the venue, were enthralled in the world of colours. The highlight of the event is that it is expected to secure a place in the Limca Book of Records.

Speaking to reporters, Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva said that the authorities of the Limca Book of Records were informed and necessary registrations were done before organising the event. All documents including video recording of the camp and profiles of all participating artists will be sent to the Limca Book of Records authorities, he added.

Alva said that the event has been organised at an estimated cost of Rs 30 lakh. The artworks will be exhibited at the Alva’s Virasat national cultural festival, which will be held in Moodbidri between January 6 to 10, he added. Both artists of international fame and budding talents participated in the camp, which was organised with a theme ‘Indian Culture’. Eminent artists B K S Varma, Punichithaya Kasaragod, M B Patil, C Chandrashekhar, J M S Mani, Adyanthaya, B S Krishna Setty, Baburao Nadoni, M C Chetti, students various art schools and amateur artists joined hands to make the even successful.

Earlier, organisers had decided to use 750 meter-long canvas for the event. However, when the number of participants increased, the length of the canvas too was increased to 800 meters. While Karnataka Bank Managing Director P Jayaram Bhat and Udupi Power Corporation Deputy General Manager Kishor Alva were present at the inaugural ceremony, eminent artists M B Patil, B S Krishna Setty and Mangalore Special Economic Zone Limited (MSEZL) Chief Operating Officer A G Pai were the guests at the valedictory programme.
