Twitter complaint leads to youth's arrest for robbery

Last Updated 11 December 2014, 20:28 IST

Acting on a complaint posted on Twitter, police have arrested a 22-year-old man on the charge of robbing many lonely women in the Central Business District (CBD). The arrest solved at least ten cases of robbery, the police claimed.

Sunil Kumar, a resident of Ashoknagar, would go around Brigade Road, MG Road, Lavelle Road, Ashoknagar and the surrounding areas, and target lonely women and snatch their hand bags. His modus operandi, the police went on, was simple.

He would make sure the victim was either busy talking on the mobile phone or talking to someone else. He would run into her, snatch her bag and disappear before long.

One of the victims had tweeted the complaint on the official page of DCP (Central) on November 20. Based on that complaint, the police arrested Kumar and recovered seven mobile phones from his possession. Nearly ten cases have been registered against him at the Ashoknagar and Cubbon Park police stations.
