5 killed, 18 injured in bus accident

Five persons, including three women, were killed and 18 others injured when a bus in which they were travelling rammed into a tree near a village here, police said today.

The accident took place last evening near Dundaseoni village, about 40 kms from the district headquarters, when the private bus was on its way to Seoni from Chapara, Keolari police station in-charge N L Dhurve said.
Four persons including three women died on spot while another victim succumbed to his injuries later at a hospital, Seoni Superintendent of Police R P Singh said.
The deceased were identified as Radha Vishwakarma (50), Premabai Vishwakarma (70), Bainoor Khan (60), Naeem Khan (45) and Satyavan (28), police said.
Seoni Collector Bharat Yadav visited the district hospital to enquire about the condition of the victims.
He announced an ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 each to the kin of the deceased, Rs 5,000 each to seriously injured persons and Rs 2,000 to those who suffered minor injuries in the accident, from the Chief Minister's Relief fund.
The Collector also directed Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) to conduct a probe into the mishap.|
A case under various sections of the IPS was registered against the driver, who was also seriously injured in the accident.
