The Legislative Council referred a motion moved against the Udupi deputy commissioner to the Privileges Committee,  on Friday.

Members Pratapchandra Shetty (Cong) and Kota Srinivas Pujari (BJP) moved motion against Deputy Commissioner, Udupi. However the officer’s name was not mentioned.

Shetty said that the deputy commissioner had violated norms during a review meeting conducted by district in-charge minister on November 24 this year and stood stubborn on his stand that taluk level officials would not be called for attending the district level review meetings.

Despite Panchayat Raj Act rules being appraised and being asked to call the taluk panchayat officials, deputy commissioner did not change his stand.

Video evidence of the behavior of the deputy commissioner has been submitted to the chairman, hence privilege proceedings, be conducted, he demanded. Pujari said, action if not taken against the deputy commissioner it would set a new precedent and elected representatives would not be respected by the officials.

Chairman D H Shankarmurthy said referred the motion to the Privileges Committee.
