Karthik Jayaram doesn’t believe in restricting himself to any film industry. He feels actors must act in as many languages as and when they can. This is precisely why Karthik decided to do a bilingual project even when his hands were full with Kannada films.

“I didn’t go seeking out a Telugu movie. The director saw ‘Ashwini Nakshatra’ and wanted to cast me in ‘Chandrika.’ The role is unlike what I have done before and gives a lot of scope for performance,” says Karthik.

He dons the role of a painter in the film which will be simultaneously made in both Kannada and Telugu. Karthik informs that although ‘Chandrika’ is a horror film, it has been shot in an aesthetic manner. “There are no gory scenes or bloodshed. It’s not a regular horror film. You will see all the effects of horror and some of the scenes will leave you feeling a little uneasy,” he states.

Most of the scenes have been shot at specially created set at Rockline Studios. “The sets have been done up brilliantly and does well to evoke fear in you,” he adds. Karthik’s character is fearless and confronts the evil head on.

He is paired opposite Kamna Jethmalani in the movie. The film opens with a song and Karthik feels the idea of a song has worked well to spice up the chemistry between the two of them on screen.  He also holds a lot of admiration for actor Girish Karnad who plays the role of Kamna’s grandfather. “Even after all these years in the industry, Girish sir is open to suggestions. There’s a lot of exchange of ideas when he (Girish) is around.

He is also working on an extended version of ‘Ashwini Nakshatra’ which will run into a two-hour episode. “I’ve been shooting day and night to complete this particular project,” he adds. There’s also ‘Bangalore 23’ where he plays the lead role and in ‘Care of Footpath 2’, he slips into the role of a cop.

“It’s an interesting role where I play a cop and take on a group of kids who conspire to take revenge on me. It deals with juvenile justice, which I think is more relevant today than ever before,” he sums up.
