The deceased Renuka was a native of Kondlahalli in Chitradurga district. The death, which was initially labelled as suicide by the police, took a new turn after the family members of the girl demanded an inquiry.

Renuka’s older brother Channappa told Deccan Herald that there was no apparent reason for suicide as he had met Renuka just 30 minutes before the incident.

“Renuka wanted me to accompany her as she was planning to apply for a job. I had just woken up and so I said that I will be right behind her. About 30 minutes later I got the news of her death. The death is mysterious as there was no access to the fifth floor and it was almost impossible to reach the top,” he said.

Family members said that there was no reason for her to end life and Renuka was cheerful before she left for work on Sunday morning. Renuka was working as a sales girl at M K Ahmed Retail departmental stores for the past 15 days and was living with her sister and brother-in-law. She had just completed her industrial training and wanted to pursue a specialisation in the field.

The police said, they were investigating the background. A team will be sent to Chitradurga to obtain more information.

Held for fraud

The Jeevan Bima Nagar Police have arrested a man in connection with a chit fund fraud in Tippasandra. The arrested Ramesh along with his brother Suresh had cheated investors of Rs 5 crore.

The brothers had floated a chit fund firm, ‘Eshwar Credit Society,’ in Tippasandra and lured investors with false promises. The police said that the two had recently disappeared with the money. Ramesh has maintained throughout the interrogation that he and his brother were no longer business partners and he had nothing to do with the case. The prime accused in the case Suresh is still absconding, police said.
