'I am good at comedy'

Model-turned-actress Neha Dhupia says that whatever she does has to be perfect and the result must be big. Success hasn’t come easy to this tall, lanky actress with sharp looks and ever sharper eyes. She says that it’s hard work that has got her thus far.

Dhupia has been appreciated for her role as a journalist in Ungli and she points out that it wasn’t easy to play the character of a journalist. “I had to learn to talk in a certain manner and present news in a dispassionate way, without showing any emotion, just the way journalists do. Considering that actors are supposed to emote well, this role
was quite a tough one,” she explains.

An actor’s life is similar to that of a chameleon. “Actors keep changing their roles, appearances and looks almost all the time. I don’t look out for anything in particular but every new project unravels a newer facet of my personality,” feels Dhupia.

More than a decade in the film industry, she says that she sees acting as nothing more than a profession. “Acting gives you the chance to travel and meet different people. But you also have a lot of free time when you don’t have movies. I take it easy and there are a lot of other things that I do on the side.” She says she likes to keep things simple. “I believe that as I grow, I need to add more dimensions to my life, explore and exploit every talent of mine to the hilt. This keeps me going,” she observes.

Dhupia has signed up for a Punjabi comedy film Double Di Trouble, co-starring veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra, which she says gives her a lot of scope for plenty of “wicked comedy”. “I am good at comedy and I really feel alive when I play such characters,” she feels.

She has been getting a lot of offers from the other industries including the Kannada film industry but says that she won’t consider any of them unless something really
substantial comes her way.
