The State government has initiated action against private bus operators picking up commuters from different locations in Bengaluru, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy told the Legislative Assembly on Monday.

In a written reply to questions by Ravi Subramanya (BJP), the minister said that picking up commuters from different locations was against the permit conditions. However, he said that there were no plans to ban such pick-up points. The minister also said that there were no plans to build a bus terminal on the outskirts of Bengaluru for use of private operators.

Reddy said that the government was aware that private bus operators jack up fares  during holidays and festival season. A meeting was convened in August to discuss the issue. The operators have been warned that their permits would be cancelled if they hike prices during holidays and festivals. A committee has been formed to fix the fares, he said.

Replying to a question by Somashekar S T (Congress), the minister said that there were four prepaid auto counters in Bengaluru and the government had no plans to increase their numbers. The prepaid auto counters are located at Cantonment Railway Station, Bengaluru City railway station, Yeshwantpur railway station and KSRTC bus stand.

Replying to a question by Ashoka R (BJP), the minister said the government was aware of the inconvenience caused to public due to shifting of some KSRTC services from Kempegowda bus terminal. He said that the frequency of shuttle services to Basaveshwara bus terminal in Peenya would be increased in the days to come.
