The Hebri Zonal Kasturirangan Varadi Virodhi Horata Samithi has called for Hebri bandh on December 17.

Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, Hebri Zonal Kasturirangan Varadi Virodhi Horata Samithi President Navin Adyanthaya said the bandh would also be observed in Hebri-Chara, Belanje-Kucchur, Nadpal and Kabbinale villages.

A meeting would be held to discus the implications following the implementation of the report in the identified areas. He said the bus operators union has also expressed their support for the bandh. The farmers, labourers working in the industries and localities would take part in large number.

He alleged that the Kasturirangan and his team have unscientifically earmarked the boundaries. He added the villages that are covered hardly have any forest land and the land mass which has abundant forest cover is dropped from the report.

He said there is no objection from the Samithi to introduce the recommendations in the reserve forest area, while the area covering human habitat should be dropped. He alleged that the report is made without consulting the local people.

Expressing fear that the implementation of the recommendations would lead to the destruction of cultivation activities in the region, Adyanthaya said that most of the people in the area are marginal farmers and small landholders. It would massively affect their livelihood sources.

Besides, the report would also make thousands in the area unemployed, following many number of industries in the area are recognized under orange belt. The report also forbids the construction of houses, which would also lead to the unstable atmosphere in the region. He demanded that the government should immediately take measures to drop the villages Hebri-Chara, Belanje-Kucchur, Nadpal and Kabbinale from the report.

He added that the bandh will be organised from 6 am to 6 pm and a meeting will be held at Hebri bus stop. Advocate T Balakrishna Shetty would deliver a talk on the implications of the report on the occasion. Kasturirangan Varadi Virodhi Horata Samithi (Karkala) President Mutlapdi Sathish Shetty and Member Ravi Shankar Sherigar and Udupi Raitha Sangha Member Sathish Kini Belve would also address the agitators.
