A Metro station and a trading centre in Gurgaon were evacuated and the district police put on alert on Wednesday after a hoax bomb call.

An anonymous caller at the Haryana control room at around 2.10 pm said that bombs were planted in Gurgaon district, including at Delhi Metro's HUDA City Centre station in Gurgaon's sector-29 and Vyapar Kendra in Sushant Lok.

It led to anxious moments as Gurgaon police, bomb disposal and dog squads conducted search operations, only to discover that the call was a hoax.

The elite counter-terror commandos of the National Security Guard were also pressed into service. There was heavy deployment of security personnel.

“Police teams along with bomb detection and disposal teams were pressed into service and the matter was verified,” said Gurgaon Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk.

At around 5 pm, Virk said the situation was under control and there was no cause for a scare. Three cars suspected to be carrying explosives were also checked, but nothing was found.

The search operations were led by Joint Commissioner of Police (Gurgaon) Saurabh Singh and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Gurgaon East) Deepak Saharan. Police have tracked the mobile number of the caller to Odisha.

The caller will be booked under sections 182 (false information) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code, and under section 66A of the Information Technology Act.

Virk added that Delhi Metro services at HUDA City Centre station were partially stopped as a precaution for about two hours.  It is the terminal station on the Yellow Line with trains on the Jahangirpuri route.

A  Delhi Metro spokesperson said train services on the Yellow Line ran as normal normal except at Huda City Centre station.

Entry and exit of passengers at the station was stopped on the advice of Haryana Police from 4 pm to 5.56 pm, the spokesperson said. The station was reopened after receiving clearance from police.
