IT industry to reach Rs 30k cr by 2020, says Nasscom

The information technology industry will emerge as a Rs 30,000-crore industry by 2020, said Nasscom Chairman R Chandrasekaran on Thursday.

“The IT sector now contributes 8 per cent of GDP and 4 million jobs directly and 12 million jobs indirectly.”

Speaking at the ‘Being 25’, the silver jubilee celebrations of Nasscom on Thursday, he said, “Nasscom is a very special coalition of competitors. But the fiercely competing members are also collaborators. Their joint effort and synergy have made the industry what it is today.”

The IT industry has created value and established high standards India, which brought such laurels that remain unparalleled to any industry in the country, said Happiest Minds Chairman Ashok Soota.

Soota said the IT industry should be known as one which brought change in the mindset of people. He emphasised the need for an interdisciplinary approach where changes will bring new opportunities.
