The BJP on Friday suspended its MLA Prahalad Gunjal from Kota (North) in Rajasthan for allegedly threatening the district's  medical officer with expletives over the issue of transfer of a male nurse.

Gunjal had created a huge stir after his alleged phone conversation with Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) R N Yadav went viral on Internet.

In the phone conversation, Gunjal is heard using abusive and threatening language against Yadav for not issuing transfer orders to the kin of a party worker..

Following the incident, the CMHO resigned protesting against the "mental harassment".

"I sent my voluntary resignation with conditions to the Deputy Secretary of Medical and Health in Secretariat by post. I sent an email too," Yadav said.

"I want an assurance from the government that I will be allowed to work in a peaceful and congenial atmosphere, " he added.

Gunjal's suspension comes even as he issued a statement regretting his action. The suspended MLA sent a personal note to the state BJP President today saying that it was an "emotional outburst".

"I used some words which were not to be used. If my words have hurt anyone, or caused agony to anyone, then I regret", Gunjal said.

The accused MLA also sent a copy of the note to the Chief Minister's Office, party sources said.

Gunjal has been booked for allegedly threatening the CMHO R N Yadav under various sections of IPC.
