Cycling marathon on March 1

The second edition of the Vodafone Cycling Marathon is all set to kick off in the city on March 1, 2015.

After its successful first edition in February this year, the event seems to have attracted more cycling enthusiasts of Bengaluru, thus prompting the organisers to provide bigger incentives and better facilities for the next edition.

Over 8000 cyclists will be participating in the marathon which will also see 150 elite licensed cyclists of Cycling Federation of India (CFI) from across the country making their presence.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the Operation Director (South), Vodafone India, Suresh Kumar said that the main objective behind the marathon is to promote the cycling culture and make the city more environment friendly.

“We to want encourage cycling among people. Last year we received 5000 entries and for the second edition the numbers have gone up. It is an encouraging sign,” he said.

The marathon will consist of four categories - Champions Race (60km), Passion Race (40km), Green Ride (20 km) and Fashion Ride (5 km).

The Champions Race, which is open for elite licensed cyclists, offers a prize money of Rs 10 lakhs. For the Passion Race, the cash prize allotted is Rs 2 lakhs.
