Shop owners told to pay rent in 15 days

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Saturday warned shop owners at Palike markets of severe action if they fail to pay the pending rental dues within 15 days.

The BBMP Standing Committee of Markets, chairman, B R Nanjundappa and his team visited various Palike markets on Saturday. About 16 shops near the Srinagar bus stand owe Rs 10 lakh rent and the team collected Rs 2.5 lakh on the spot during the inspection.

A few traders were asked to pay the rent by noon on Saturday and their shops were shut down. They later inspected shops located at Jayanagar 9th Block and issued notices to ten traders to pay rent in one week. The Committee also inspected shops at the Wilson Garden Market and Lakkasandra.

B R Nanjundappa said the Palike is expecting to collect Rs 100 crore in pending dues from markets. Committee special officer, Srinivas said there are 121 markets under the BBMP ambit comprising of 6101 shops.
