Smith should captain Australia in all formats: Harris

Australian pacer Ryan Harris feels stand-in Test skipper Steve Smith should be handed captaincy in all three formats if Michael Clarke fails to recover in time for next year's ODI cricket World Cup.

Harris, who is nursing a quadriceps strain and is racing against time to be fit for the third Test against India, said he has been left impressed by Smith's leadership.

Smith scored a hundred and led the team to a four-wicket triumph over India in Brisbane after becoming Australia's 45th Test captain.

"There's no doubt I can see him as captain in all forms. We will see what happens, there is obviously a big (2015) World Cup coming up," Harris told 'Fox Sports'.

"George Bailey's done it (ODI role) in the absence of Michael Clarke and I think he has done a pretty good job. But with Steve Smith heading that way it might be a good idea to give it to him," he opined.

Speaking about himself, Harris said he has a "90 per cent" chance of making the playing in the third Test starting on December 26.

"It's going well. It was just a slight strain there. There's no pain there – it's all looking up. I am pretty keen to get back out there and play – I am frustrated watching," Harris said. Australia lead the four-match series 2-0.
