Govt to widen single window by roping in 10 departments

Karnataka is all set to bring in ease of doing business by roping in ten departments under the single window mechanism of Udyog Mitra to expedite clearances to entrepreneurs starting industries.

Speaking to industrialists at an interactive  meeting organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) on Monday, Additional Chief Secretary, Commerce and Industries Department, K Ratna Prabha said the ten departments will issue no-objection certificates by filing a single application for starting a project. She did not specify the names of the departments involved in the exercise.

“We want to make Karnataka the most industry-friendly state by all means and this is already stated in the new Industrial Policy. The new single window mechanism to be implemented by Udyog Mitra will give a timeframe of 15-30 days to process files related to 10 departments and the entrepreneurs can start their business. This new mechanism will be launched within a couple of weeks,” she said.

Brushing aside allegations that industries are bypassing the state, she said the government is getting enough enquiries and out of the 82 investment proposals in 2013-14, 60 per cent have implemented.

“We should understand that 52 proposals are new. The projects under steel and coal had to face the heat because of regulatory hurdles. Till now, projects worth Rs 43,000 crore have been cleared by the government,” she said.

She said the investors meet held at Chamrajnagar and Raichur districts were grand successes. “We have got enough investment queries from Hyderabad, Kolhapur and Chennai for investments in Karnataka. Even though Hero left the state with its Rs 1000-crore project proposal, lots of other projects are in the pipeline,” she said.

Besides the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) in Gulbarga and Tumkur, the government plans to develop industrial corridors like the Bengaluru-Chennai and Bengaluru-Mumbai corridors. Three nodes related to these corridors will further boost investments in the state, she said.

“We have acquired 12,500 acres of land for a NIMZ and selected nine townships for industrial development. As part of the integrated infrastructure plan, government is proposing to further develop the Mangalore Port and strengthen connectivity to it,” Prabha said.
