Karavali Utsav from today

Around 6,000 artistes to participate in inaugural cultural procession

Around 6,000 artistes, 50 tableaux and more than 20 cultural troupes are expected to participate in a procession to mark ‘Karavali Utsav 2014-15.’ The procession will be held from Nehru Maidan to Karavali Utsav grounds, on Tuesday.

 Chairing a review meeting , District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai said that  the procession will be inaugurated by  director Sadananda Suvarna at 3 pm. The procession will pass through A B Shetty Circle, Hampankatta Circle, K S Rao Road, Navabharath Circle, PVS Circle and Lalbagh before culminating at Mangala Stadium.  

Various teams including Gumte Kunita, Veerabhadra Kunita, Somana Kunita, Veeragaase, Suggi Kunita, Halakki Kunita, Kamsale, Dollu Kunita and other teams would showcase the rich culture and tradition of the State.

Around 2,000 sthree shakthi members and students will also take part.
Nitte University Chancellor N Vinay Hegde will inaugurate the Karavali Utsav at Karavali Utsav grounds at 6 pm. District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the exhibition.

A six-foot long aquarium, by Mangalore City Corporation would be the centre of attraction. The total budget for the exhibition is Rs 8.65 lakh and Rs three lakh has been released.

Cultural programmes

During the 10-day event, 44 cultural programmes will be held, wherein around 21 programmes will be held at Karavali Utsav maidan and others at Kadri Park.
The total budget for the cultural programmes are Rs 35 lakh and Rs 25 lakh has already been released by the district administration.

Beach Utsav  Samiti President Yatish Bykampady said that 27 children have been selected for singing and 11 for dance during audition who will participate during the fest.
Kabaddi competition will be held for men and women at Nehru Maidan, on December 31 and January 1. Olympian Poovamma and Kabaddi player Mamata Poojary will be felicitated, the Minister said.  

Additional DC Sadashiv Prabhu said that the district administration and the MCC will give utmost importance to cleanliness during the utsav. Lorries have been arranged to transport the garbage.

Six temporary toilets have been built, he added.

Achiever to be feted

The ADC said that a committee under the chairmanship of Hampi University former VC Prof B A Vivek Rai has been constituted to select an achiever from the district for felicitation. The achiever will be felicitated on December 30.

Rs 50 lakh from govt

District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai said that the State government has released Rs 50 lakh for the Karavali Utsav.
