ZP spruces up General Thimmaiah stadium

The Kodagu Zilla Panchayat has renovated General Thimmaiah stadium in Napoklu.
Napoklu government high school is among the five high schools sanctioned to the Kodagu in 1944.

The high school was upgraded to PU College in 1972.A stadium was constructed on 54 acre land situated on the banks of river Cauvery, donated by Chokira, Bollepanda, Kikanda, Poravada and Makki Brahmins.

The stadium was constructed in 1991 at a cost of Rs five lakh. Seating arrangements were made for 200 spectators. The stadium also has green room facility.

The stadium was rechristened as Veera Senani General Thimmaiah stadium. Many tournaments were held in the stadium. Over a course of time, miscreants vandalised the asbestos sheets and window panes of the gallery.

The trees grown in the surroundings of the stadium on an 10 acre were felled by the poachers. Though the damaged roof was repaired at a cost of Rs nine lakh by Zilla Panchayat and department of youth empowerment and sports two years ago, the miscreants had again damaged the roof.

The Zilla Panchayat has once again taken an initiative to give a facelift to the stadium by repairing the roof. The building has been painted at a cost of Rs two lakh.
