One-man panel to probe charges against VTU VC

Following a series of allegations against Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Vice Chancellor H Maheshappa, the Governor’s office has constituted a one-man committee to look into the veracity of the charges.

The committee headed by former Karnataka High Court Judge Justice Ajit Gunjal is likely to submit a report to the governor within a fortnight after due inquiry into the allegations of irregularities against the vice chancellor. The same has been communicated to the officials concerned at the VTU.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Maheshappa said, “We have been asked to co-operate in the inquiry process. The registrar will hand over all the necessary documents to the committee.”
Maheshappa has been facing several charges, including flouting procedural norms in recruitments earlier this year.

He has been also accused of misappropriating the varsity finances. Even construction works initiated by him have come under the scanner.
